a visit from daily dujour

my friend jack from daily dujour came by to visit my studio last week.
i was working on the last piece for my upcoming solo exhibition "hello and goodbye."
i originally thought the piece was 8ft wide but i found out it was 9ft when i took it to the framer....

anyways there are some photos of my studio and some photo of the giant piece...
i hope you all can make it on the 9th of may to see the finish product....

sneak peak...

here is a little sneak peak for my solo exhibition, " hello and goodbye," which is happening on the 9th of may at lebasse projects in los angeles.

for this particular show "hello and goodbye" i focused on and created a series of work which is based on the cycle of connection/disconnection that i have experienced and shared with others.

i left my home town toba, Japan when i was 15 and this separation eventually helped me to connect to my family ona deeper level.
also being away from my culture and its tradition made realized how special and meaningful they were to me.

there are times when separation helps me to connect - to grow and understand myself better, and there are situations when attachments make me feel powerless and weak...
this balance and the conflict between connection and disconnection fascinates me.
over all i believe that we strive for connections that refine our abilityto understand ourselves better.

i know this isn't the final form of my work but it is in process and in progress for something greater.
so for now i will keep on moving forward.

今週のはじめに友達とスウェーデンからのミュージシャンのLykke　Liを見に行って来ました。
去年の半ばから良く聞いてます。
正直ここ何年か見たコンサートの中でも一番楽しめ感動したって思います。
やっぱライブはいいもんですね。

after the successful koibito release party at munky king last month, i received many e-mails from over the sea/ out of the state fans. many of them expressed their excitement about koibito. and others expressed their sadness for missing the party and all the goodies which were available at the event....

personally i understand their situation very well. there have been many cases that i wished i could of been back at home in japan. i wasn't be able to attend to some of these events in the past due to financial reasons and other circumstances, including two of my brothers weddings and many of the holidays........   

so i made a decision to create online exclusive koibitos for those who couldn't make it to the official release party.  

these four colours represent the four elements of the nature: earth, fire, wind, and water.

also there  will be a very small run of "under the stars" gocco prints.

we are still working on the timing and the detail about this exclusive online release....

i will let you know as we figure it out.

the secret revealed......

so last weekend at the vtn (vinyl toy network), the secret color way of my toy koibito was revealed at munky king's booth.....

i'm working on a new series of gocco prints.
these will be available at koibito release party at munky king.

they are edition of 25.
they come with either gold ink or silver ink.
i hand painted and stencil the background so everyone is a little different from each other.

the time has been passing by me so rapidly lately.....
i can't believe we are at the last month of 2008....

but the good news is my toy koibito is finally coming out on 11th of this month!!!
i hope all of you are as excited as i am:)
and to make this occasion little bit more special i'm ruffling away an original painting.
i haven't confirmed all　the detail about with munky king, but you will have a chance to win this original koibito painting if you attend the event on the 11th.
also we are going to make a mini print out of the same image.
