omi x yoskay

hello,

i hope everyone is enjoying change of the seasons and staying warm.

i was invited by munky king to participate in their group show, "the omi show."
omi is munky king's first platform toy and the project was inspired by chinese opera mask and japanese nou theater mask. i had a chance to create a design for their first series which is coming out soon.

for the omi show, i carved two wooden omi mask. it was a a lot of fun to add my own twist to the omi's simple but a unique shape.

anyways here are the images of my contribution:

thanks to darren from clickforart.com i had a chance to design a tea cup and saucer for them.
since i don't work with digital media often as i used to so, it was a bit of a challenge but i'm very pleased with the outcome.

back to stumptown:)

after our show at roq la rue gallery in seattle i took sometime off to spend few days in one of my favorite city on the west coast, portland. i fell in love with the city the first time i had a chance to visit. the moodiness of the weather and accessibility of the city reminded me of san francisco in many ways.
plus the cleanness and the charm of the city which is accented by their amazing local food and beers...
portland is truly magical in many ways....

i'm glad i got to visit such a beautiful city once again.

i hope you will enjoy some of these pictures;

work in progress

it has been about a month since, i started to paint on a paper. i wanted to try something new and exciting to keep myself interested in my own work. i get bored easily and i found it was a perfect time to switch the tempo and also to learn something new from it. i have done couple paintings on a paper before but i wasn't very happy with the result. this time i'm trying to keep the soft quality of the paper and learn to paint more sensitively than i usually do. the beginning was a bit difficult to get hang of everything, but like everything else, im slowly learning by just trying different approach, and making mistakes.

here is a detail shot of one of the piece;

im planing to have around 6 new paintings for a two person show next month.
i will be showcasing my work with my friend, edwin ushiro at roq la roo gallery in seattle.

i will post more detail as the date reaches.

thanks for stopping by and i hope all of you are having a pleasant summer.
:)
